Tehran's interim Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati says Washington gained nothing but disgrace and condemnation from its military invasion of Iraq.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “In these attacks [on Iraq] more than hundreds of thousands of Iraqi people were killed and injured,” Ayatollah Jannati said, praising the resistance of the Iraqi nation and government that led to US troop withdrawal.

The senior cleric further congratulated Iran's Intelligence Ministry on arresting a CIA spy, saying that the American spy was in possession of valuable information which would need to be extracted.

Ayatollah Jannati also pointed to the blessings of the spreading wave of Islamic Awakening and said, “Over the recent period, two to three of the most evil tyrants such as the Egyptian, Tunisian and Libyan dictators have been toppled.”

The head of Iran's Guardian Council, , which is charged with supervising the elections and vetting the candidates, pointed to the country's upcoming parliamentary elections and said, “Majlis is a very important [body] as it links the nation and establishment and this is why those who enter Majlis should be aware of the importance of their responsibility.”

He said those who qualify for candidacy will definitely receive the vote of approval by the Guardian Council, and if someone is mistakenly rejected in the vetting process, they can appeal and defend their rights.
