Iranian students set ablaze US, UK, Zionist flags on Student Day

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Iranian students gathered on occasion of Student Day in Tehran University and st ablaze US, UK, and Zionist regime flags in protest against their illogical, endless hostilities toward Iran.

 Iranian students gathered in Tehran University yard, shouted anti-US, anti-UK and anti-Zionist regime slogans after holding the religious ceremony related to the anniversary of Imam Hossein's martyrdom anniversay.

The people in Iran and abroad mourn on Ashura, the tenth day of the lunar month of Moharram, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hossein (P).

Moharram is commemorated by Shi'a Muslims as a day of mourning on the sad occasion of martyrdom of Ima Hossein ibn-Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (P) at the Battle of Karbala on the 10th of Muharram in the year 61 AH (October 2, 680 CE).

In some Shi'a regions of Muslim countries such as Albania, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Lebanon, and Bahrain, the Commemoration of Imam Hossein ibn Ali (P) has become a national holiday and most ethnic and religious communities participate in it.

Even in a predominantly Hindu country like India, where Ashura Day is a public holiday.

Imam Hossein (P) in his path toward Kufa encountered the army of Ubayd-Allah ibn Ziyad, the governor of Kufa. On October 10th, 680 (Muharram 10th, 61 AH), he and his small group of companions and family members, who were among his 72 men army, fought with a large army of perhaps more than 100,000 men under the command of Umar ibn Sa'ad, son of the founder of Kufa. Hossein (P) and all of his men were killed while being extremely thirsty.

The nearby river (Euphrates) was also blocked by Ubayd-Allah ibn Ziyad men and Imam Hossein (P) and his companions were not allowed to get any water from it.
Imam Hossein's grave became a pilgrimage site for Shi'a Muslims only a few years after his death.

Student Day is the anniversary of the murder of three students of University of Tehran on December 7, 1953 (16 Azar 1332 in the Iranian calendar) by Iranian police in the Pahlavi era.
Every year, there are local demonstrations at many universities organized by students.

Ahmad Ghandchi and two other students, Shariat-Razavi and Bozorg-Nia, Iranian students, were killed when the police forces opened fire on the students of University of Tehran who were on strike in protest at the resumption of Iran's relations with Britain and the former US president Richard Nixon's visit of Iran, following the coup d'état of 1953, which toppled the popular government of prime minister Mohammad Mosaddeq.

The next day, Nixon came to Iran and received an Honorary Doctorate in Law at University of Tehran, while the occupation of the university campus by police forces was quite evident.
