(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Tuesday pardoned or commuted prison terms of hundreds of convicts sentenced by various Iranian courts.
Ayatollah Khamenei granted amnesty to 912 convicts on the occasion of Shiite Muslims greatest even, Eid-al Ghadir.
The pardon was made at the request of the country's Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani.
Article 110 of the Constitution grants the Supreme Leader the right to pardon or reduce the sentences of convicts upon a recommendation from the head of the Judiciary.
Shiite Muslims celebrated one of their greatest religious eves, Ghadir Khumm, on Tuesday.
Ghadir Khum was an oasis on the way between Mecca and Medina where Prophet Mohammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his progeny), coming back from his last Hajj pilgrimage, gathered all his one-hundred thousand companions to tell them that God Almighty has appointed Imam Ali (AS) as his successor and actually the leader of the Muslim nation after him.
