(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Iran's embassy in Kuwait has dismissed reports about espionage charges against two Kuwaiti nationals in Iran, emphasizing that the duo were detained for committing an illegal offense.
The two Kuwaiti nationals were arrested in Iran over an offense that runs counter to the conditions of their tourist visa, the embassy said in a statement on Monday.
It added that the case is under investigation, IRNA reported.
The embassy also noted that the statement was issued in an effort to inform the public and avert any enemy efforts to cause tension in the amicable relations between the two Muslim and neighboring states of Iran and Kuwait.
Earlier reports announced that Iranian security forces apprehended two unnamed Kuwaiti nationals on charges of illegal entry and involvement in espionage activities in Abadan, a city in the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan.
Early press reports on Monday stated that Iranian security forces had detained the two Kuwaitis with espionage equipment in the major Persian Gulf port city.
