(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Russia and France, as two major powers, have strongly warned against any military adventure against for its nuclear program.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said an attack against Iran would lead to unpredictable consequences, the RT reported.
French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe also said attack on Iran’s nuclear sites could create a "totally destabilizing" situation in the Middle East, according to Reuters.
Lavrov said there is no military solution to international conflicts as it can only increase the number of victims.
The top Russian diplomat stressed that any conflict can only be solved on the basis of principles approved by the international community and established by the United Nations Charter. The international law allows states to use force only in self-defense or when there is a respective resolution by the UN Security Council, he added.
According to Lavrov, the resumption of the negotiations between Tehran and the six-nation group (the Security Council's five permanent members plus Germany) is the only way to resolve questions about Iran’s nuclear problem. He reminded that Moscow has proposed solutions to the nuclear standoff between Iran and the West.
“Our proposals remain on the negotiating table. I hope no actions will be taken that would willingly or unwillingly wreck the chances that still remain,” Lavrov said.
Political and military officials in Tehran have repeatedly insisted that any strike on Iran’s nuclear sites will be followed with a “crushing” response.
---‘Totally destabilizing’
The French foreign minister said, "A military intervention could create a totally destabilizing situation in the region."
"We must do everything to avoid the irreparable," Juppe told Europe 1 radio on Sunday.
The comments followed last week’s remarks by Israeli President Shimon Peres, who claimed that Iran is “the greatest danger” to Tel Aviv and the entire world and said a military action against the Islamic Republic may be taken soon.
On Monday, the Washington Post also quoted diplomatic sources as claiming that the International Atomic Energy Agency has obtained information that Iran could have advanced on its way to the creation of nukes with the help of foreign specialists, including “a former Soviet weapons scientist.”
Iran has come under strong pressure for its nuclear program. Israel and some of its Western allies, including the United States, claim that Iran is developing nuclear weapons.
As a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran is legally authorized to do nuclear activities for peaceful purposes.
