Preliminary reports say there two attackers. Both were wearing camouflage uniforms and apparently came out of the wood.
Sheikh Sirazhutdin of Khurik, an influential religious figure of Dagestan's Naqshbandi Tariqat, one of the Sunni branches of Islam, has had hundreds or thousands of followers, according to various sources.
It's the latest in a string of similar murders committed in Dagestan over the past year.

A well-known cleric, Sirazhutdin Israfilov, better known as Sheikh Sirazhutdin of Khurik, has been killed in the Tabasaran region of Dagestan, a local law enforcement source has told Interfax.
