(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Following the assassination of the head of Afghanistan's Peace Council, Afghan President Hamid Karzai says his government will not hold talks with the Taliban militant group anymore.
The former Afghan president and the chairman of the Independent High Council for Peace Burhanuddin Rabbani was killed in an explosion that took place in his home on September 20.
Five senior Afghan officials, who were present in the gathering, were also killed in the explosion.
Karzai said Rabbani's assassination has convinced him to focus on dialogue with Pakistan instead, the state-run BBC reported.
The Afghan president said there were no partners for dialogue among the Taliban and it was not possible to find the Taliban leader, Mullah Omar.
“A messenger comes disguised as a Taliban Council member and kills, and they neither confirm nor reject it. Therefore, we cannot talk to anyone but to Pakistan,” Karzai added.
“Who is the other side in the peace process? I do not have any other answer but to say Pakistan is the other side in the peace talks with us,” he noted.
As the head of Afghanistan's Peace Council, Rabbani was in charge of Afghan-Taliban talks aimed at reintegrating militants who are willing to lay down their arms.
