(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Deputy Secretary General of Lebanon's Hezbollah Movement Sheikh Naim Qassem has urged a united front against global hegemony.
Naim Qassem made the remarks during the first international conference on Islamic Awakening and the popular uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa in the Iranian capital Tehran on Saturda.
He emphasized on the significance of establishing a united front against hegemonistic powers, which, he said, are persistently trying to sow discord among Muslims.
Naim Qassem also warned against US attempts to hijack the regional revolutions.
He also noted that the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran was the source of the waves of Islamic Awakening in the region, adding that Iran's Islamic Revolution has turned into a role model for similar popular uprisings.
Several other prominent political and religious scholars delivered speeches at the conference.
Secretary General of the Islamic Jihad Movement Ramadan Abdullah spoke about the Palestinian Authority's membership bid at the UN, and former Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani said Muslims must not yield to tyranny and oppression, stating that the regional uprisings are rooted in Islamic motives and believes.
More than 500 scholars and prominent figures from 80 countries are participating in the two-day conference, which kicked off in Tehran on Saturday.
The conference will also discuss and analyze the history and basic tenets of the Islamic Awakening as well as figures that have played a role in such movements.
The in-depth study of a unified Islamic front and the issues and problems it faces as well as the goals and prospects of Islamic Awakening are among other topics of discussion at the conference.
