(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Iran has opened a photo exhibition in an attempt to raise funds for the famine-stricken people of Somalia in the capital city of Tehran.
Iran's UNICEF goodwill ambassador, a number of foreign ambassadors and a group of prominent Iranian artists took part in the opening ceremony of the event held at Tehran's Vahdat Hall on September 9, 2011.
Dark Justice displays images taken by Iranian photographer Ali Zare, which depict the famine-stricken people of Somalia.
Supported by the United Nations Children's Fund, the event offers the photos for sale, the proceeds of which will go to the Somali people. The exhibition will run until September 19, 2011.
According to the World Food Program, drought and famine have affected more than 11.8 million people in the Horn of Africa and created a triangle of hunger where the borders of Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia meet.
Iran has dispatched several humanitarian aid convoys to Somalia so far including food and medical supplies.
Despite security concerns, Iran has also set up several relief camps in Mogadishu, covering thousands of families and housing a field hospital.
