(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - "Producing 20-percent enriched uranium in Iran continues and will not be stopped," Abbasi said on Monday.
"By producing 20-percent uranium, we have surpassed the required amount for the production of fuel for Tehran research reactor,” the head of IAEO said in an interview with IRNA.
Abbasi added that since the country's current and future reactors need more 20-percent enriched uranium, Iran plans to resume enrichment in Fordo plant.
Iran started transferring centrifuges of the Natanz site to Fordo, the country's second site for enriching uranium, on August 22.
The Iranian official refuted the West's claims about Iran's plans to produce uranium with a level of enrichment higher than 20 percent.
“The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is aware of the detailed information regarding the amount of enrichment as well as the storage place of products, and seals these places,” Abbasi added.
He went on to say that the activities in Natanz facility will continue and Iran plans to expand the plant.
Commenting on the recent visit of Deputy Head of the IAEA Safeguards Department Herman Nackaerts to Iran, Abbasi said the trip took place following Iran's nuclear chief's meeting with IAEA Chief Yukiya Amano in Vienna.
The Iranian official chief added that the IAEA delegation visited Fordo site, the fuel production plant in Isfahan, IR40 reactor in Arak and the nearby heavy water production factory, as well as Bushehr nuclear power plant.
Abbasi said Iran provided Nackaerts with more detail on the country's peaceful nuclear program and allowed the delegation to visit Arak's heavy water production facility.
The US and its allies accuse Iran of pursuing a military nuclear program, and used this pretext to pressure the UN Security Council to impose a fourth round of sanctions against Iran.
Iran, a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the IAEA, insists on its legal rights to utilize nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
