To show the ideas of the Prophet and his progeny, PBUT, and to save the ancient sources that carry this thought, since it has great, value and rare manuscripts to protect them from damage either due to longevity and weather conditions or what was a result of the attacks that took place to holy city of Karbala during disorder regime, so Imam Abbas Holy Shrine worked to find ways to restore and address these manuscripts, therefor Alkafeel center for restoration and maintenance the manuscripts in Library Division at the Department of intellectual and cultural Affairs becomes responsible for the restoration of manuscripts according to scientific methods followed internationally.
The responsible of the center, Mr. Kamal Abdul Hamid, announced to Alkafeel " the beginning of the center is the urgent need for restoration and maintenance damaged books and manuscripts of the holy shrine, since most manuscripts are made of organic materials that can be changed easily like leather, so it was necessary to find a modern and scientific way to be kept. Therefor we have attended many sessions inside and outside Iraq to learn about modern and scientific methods to perpetuate and preserve the manuscripts."
Added " the staff of the mentioned department in courses inside Iraq in province Najaf, Baghdad and then in Iran, and to be leant in advanced way so the general secretary chose Czech, since it is a developed nations in the restoration of manuscripts and paintings because of their scientists and academics specializing in this area, so the staff has a scientific background and academic specialist to participate in this session."
Explained "after the completion the session, the staff asked the supervising professors to he session on the idea of buying devices with international specifications, and when obtaining the regulatory approvals by the Holy Shrine, these devices bought and put in an appropriate place, the staff set up all the devices depending on the experience gained from During the session, then the center start working," adding," the number of devices are 15 devices in addition to the material and the number of (bones, brushes, natural paper, cleaning tools and particular pens), this material is difficult to obtain in Iraq, the center equipped also some devices, which are complementary in Iraq and the same international standards."
Claimed "the restoration process may take several months, or years related to the number of pages of the manuscript and the damage, the first manuscript was renovated in the center is (the rules of the provisions in the knowledge of Halal and Haram) to al Hily from the 11 century, contains (418) page, with five months work."
It is worth noting that the library of the Holy Shrine founded by Ayatollah late Sayyd Abbas Kashani in 1963 where the holy shrine in general and the library in particular faced various forms of neglect and vandalism, where many valuable manuscripts and precious were stole, the most damage subjected the Holy Shrine in 1991 by the ousted disorder regime, where a lot of these manuscripts were burnt, the ratio of the destruction in the library is more than 95% where many rare manuscripts lost.
The department of engineering projects and department of maintenance engineering and technical and other departments in the holy shrine carried out dozens of large projects since its inception after the fall of the former regime, where the work done by Iraqi cadres and less done by foreign labors with the supervision of the holy shrine cadres.
Secretary-General Sayyed Ahmad al-Safi declared to Alkafeel website "The various business projects and the purchase of many of the engineering, manufacturing, and scientific equipment, service and cars selection, in order to support sections of the Holy Shrine with their needs, and the convenience of visitors , all is funded by the Shi'a Bureau of the Iraqi Council of Ministers, and by 80%, while the rest - 20% - is funded by the money received from the cages of the holy shrines by visitors, and the Department of gifts and vows in the Holy Shrine, which are funded by Iraqis home and abroad, and Arabs and foreigners."
