(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - he first government school for deaf people was opened in Gaza yesterday.
This move is considered to be a major accomplishment for the Hamas Governments ministry of education in Gaza, in helping to serve students with special needs as announced by the minister of education in the Hamas government Dr. Mohammad Abu Shaqer.
In a phone call with PNN Abu Shaqer said that the ministry has been looking for years to build this school, adding that this is the first high school that will enable deaf people to finish their basic education rather than leaving school after the 9th grade, as conditions were previously.
The school consists of two buildings one for boys and one for girls in addition to administration offices and two buildings each with separate headmasters. Currently the school serves 180 students in a total of 9 classrooms. Pupils are separated based on gender with two teaching periods, one in the morning, the other in the evening. Abu Shaqer said that his ministry was able to provide the school with specialised teaching staff without the help of any foreign staff.
