"Two US service members were killed Sunday while conducting operations in central Iraq," AFP quoted the American statement as saying, without giving any further details about the incident or the soldiers.
Meanwhile, an Iraqi interior ministry official said two US soldiers were killed and three others wounded when the convoy they were in was struck by a roadside bomb in the capital's western outskirts.
The United States is obligated to withdraw its forces that currently number around 50,000 by the end of the year in line with a bilateral accord.
The agreement also forced Washington to end its combat operations in Iraq in August 2010.
The US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen said recently that Washington would "keep some American troops in the country” at, what he called, Baghdad's request.
Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has, however, warned against any extension beyond the deadline to the foreign presence on the country's soil.
Earlier on Sunday, more than a dozen bomb attacks in and around Baghdad claimed the lives of at least 19 Iraqis and left more than 80 other people wounded.
The deadliest attack saw 12 people killed and 23 wounded in a bombing in the town of Taji, 25 kilometres north of the capital, according to an Iraqi interior ministry official.
