(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “We maintain that arbitrary killing is not a solution to political problems,” Bin Laden's sons said in a statement to The New York Times on Wednesday, May 11.
"Justice must be seen to be done.”
Bin Laden was shot dead last week by US troops along with a wife and three guards during a swoop on his mansion in Pakistan.
US officials said that Bin Laden was 'unarmed' during the operation.
"As he condemned our father, we now condemn the president of the United States for ordering the execution of unarmed men and women."
Bin Laden's sons questioned why their father was not brought to trial as was the case with former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein and former Serbian leader Slobedan Milosevic.
They questioned "the propriety of such assassination where not only international law has been blatantly violated,” but the principles of presumption of innocence and the right to a fair trial were ignored.
"If OBL has been killed in that operation as (the) president of United States has claimed then we are just in questioning as per media reports that why an unarmed man was not arrested and tried in a court of law so that truth is revealed to the people of the world."
The Obama administration argues that Bin Laden was killed under the principle of national self-defense in international law as he declared war on the United States.
