(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “In these maneuvers, we will display modern weapons which have been designed and produced by Iranian experts,” Brigadier General Ali Arasteh said on Wednesday.
“The ground forces of Iran's Army are fully prepared to firmly respond to any aggression by foreign forces in any part of the country,” he added.
Brig. Gen. Ali Arasteh further said that the ground forces have been monitoring latest developments in the region and have upgraded their defense and deterrent capabilities. He also underlined the 'supremacy' of Iran's military forces among regional countries.
The Iranian commander noted that Western sanctions against the Islamic Republic and the country's defense industries have proved ineffective.
“Military equipment of the ground forces of Iran's Army is indigenous,” said Arasteh, adding that Iranian experts have designed and manufactured innovative and advanced weapon systems that will be displayed in upcoming drills.
He further pointed to the illegal military invasion of Bahrain by Saudi Arabia and observed that the US and other Western countries are fearful of the sweeping Islamic awakening in the Middle East and North Africa.
“Backed by the US, Saudi Arabia's military presence in Bahrain is in line with efforts by Western countries to avert the expansion of the Islamic awakening in the region,” he emphasized.
Anti-government protests against the rule of the Al Khalifa dynasty in Bahrain began in mid-February.
In March, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait deployed their troops in Bahrain to reinforce the regime's brutal crackdown on mass protests.
Scores of protesters have been killed and many others have gone missing since the beginning of the uprising.
Most Bahraini media outlets have been blocked and several mosques have been demolished by the Manama government.
Amnesty International and the Human Rights Watch have also condemned Bahraini and Saudi regimes for their heavy-handed tactics against the Bahraini population.
