(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The collapse of Soviet Union emboldened the United States to take unilateral actions in the world, but the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 “defeated” US unilateralism, Wakim said in a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Roknabadi on Monday.
The United States tried to defeat the Islamic Revolution by slapping Iran with sanctions and hatching various plots against it, including the role it played in imposing the Iraqi war on Iran, but the resistance waged by the Iranian nation foiled US schemes, the Lebanese official said.
Iran's Islamic Revolution clinched victory in the most difficult situation and it was warmly embraced by many world states due to its support for the Palestine issue, the Lebanese figure noted.
He went on to say that the Western countries, however, sought to block the spread of Islamic Revolution to Arab states, but their tireless efforts proved useless.
Iran's envoy to Lebanon, for his part, said that political and economic situation in the US is far worse off than what the country tries to portray. However, he added, in spite of the US-led sanctions against Iran, the Islamic Republic has managed to come through with great achievements in the fields of industry and manufacturing.
