Activists have launched a campaign on Facebook demanding the removal of the West Bank-ruling Fatah Authority and Palestine Liberation Organization. PA chief Mahmoud Abbas is taking threats seriously.
Inspired by protests in Egypt and Tunisia that ousted the president, the campaign says it is fed up with the concessions made on Palestinian land and rights and persecution of resistance fighters.
"We will either die this Friday raising our heads high, or live in humility with this corrupt group."
Last week, Al-Jazeera began leaking some of 1,600 claimed documents detailing concessions Palestinian negotiators made on almost all of East Jerusalem and other record amounts of land and on the Palestinian refugees' right of return. The documents also revealed close security ties between Israel and the PA.
"The Palestinians have completely lost trust in the Fatah movement who threw itself into the arms of Israel and became a tool for security coordination and murder of Palestinian citizens and execution of American policies in the region," the site says.
Meanwhile in Ramallah, Abbas met with security force leaders at provincial headquarters to brief them on the political situation in Palestine, Fatah's Wafa news agency reported.
He called on the agencies not to budge in defending the Palestinian national enterprise and maintaining the internal front.
The meeting came as concerns rise that demonstrations in Tunisia and Egypt could repeat in the West Bank.
