(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Police sources say the victims were a female police officer named Shamshad Begum and five of her relatives, including her two sons and daughter, who were killed late Thursday in their home.
The 50-year-old Begum, who had been in the police force for several years, was assigned to the task of searching female residents at checkpoints.
No person or group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
Violence has been mounting in Pakistan's tribal areas, where government troops are fighting militants.
At least five soldiers were killed and several others injured in separate incidents in the northwestern tribal regions on Thursday.
Taliban has accepted responsibility for some of the attacks on security forces and has claimed that such assaults are carried out in response to non-UN-sanctioned US drone attacks that have killed hundreds of civilians in the region.
Taliban's spokesman Azam Tariq has declared that the group would continue their attacks unless the drone strikes are stopped.
The annual report of the Conflict Monitoring Centre (CMC) states that more than 2,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in unauthorized US drone attacks in Pakistan's tribal areas over the past five years.
A recent report by the US-based think tank, the Brookings Institution, also brought the controversial issue of drone attacks under harsher scrutiny. It said that the illegal attacks have claimed the lives of 10 civilians for every militant killed in the tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
