The meeting was held in the Iraqi city of Najaf on Thursday.
Salehi told reporters after the meeting that he delivered a special message fromImam Seyyed Ali Khamenei to Ayatollah Sistani, IRIB reported.
Salehi arrived in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Wednesday.
The senior Iranian official has already held talks with senior Iraqi officials, including Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, President Jalal Talabani, Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama Abdulaziz al-Najafi and head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) Ammar Hakim.
Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties since the fall of the regime of executed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in 2003.
Both countries are keen to expand bilateral relations in various areas, including economy and industry.
Iran has also undertaken several construction projects in Iraq to contribute to the development of the war-torn country.
