WASSIT, Iraq (Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Police forces arrested on Friday al-Qaeda leader and seized amounts of weapons in northern Wassit, according to commander of the Quick Response Department.
“QRD forces arrested today (Dec. 10) al-Qaeda emir in a security raid in al-Khanassa region, al-Suweira district, north of Kut,” Colonel Aziz Amara told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The forces seized light weapons and a number of hand grenades found in his possession,” he added.
Kut, the capital of Wassit, is 180 km south of Baghdad.
