Pilgrims blamed poor coordination by the Palestinian Authority Ministry for Religious Affairs for the delay.
Shaher Da'oud said he and other pilgrims were initially informed that they would leave Saudi Arabia on 21 November, but that the ministry contacted them and said they were to leave two days earlier. They were also given the wrong flight times, he added, and had to wait at the airport for four hours.
The Allenby Bridge border crossing between Jordan and the West Bank operates on a half-day every Friday and Saturday, leaving more than 500 pilgrims stranded, Da'oud said. The closure is imposed by Israeli authorities due to the Jewish Shabbat holiday.
Da'oud added that pilgrims were not allowed carry holy water from the Zamzam well in Mecca on their flights, but were told it would be delivered to Amman. However the water did not arrive, Da'oud said.
