Ahlul Bayt News Agency ; Moscow -- About 100 Muscovites residing in Tekstilschiki and Ryazansky districts gathered on Sunday to lay a park in a symbolic action to demand the cancellation of a plan to build a mosque on Volzhsky Bulvar.
"Fifteen maples were planted in two rows," an organizer told an Interfax-Religion correspondent.
This symbolic action laid the first alley in a park, whose project will be handed to the prefecture of the city's Southeastern District and to the Moscow government.
Two weeks earlier, about 800 residents of Tekstilschiki and Ryazansky districts had gathered in the same place to protest plans to build a mosque accommodating 3,000 visitors.
Protesters claimed that construction would cause them a lot of inconvenience - noise, traffic jams and crowds in the subway, and that they wanted to see a park in this place. Opponents of the plan to build a mosque deny being motivated by xenophobic or political reasons
