Ahlul Bayt News Agency ; FORT WAYNE, Indiana -- A discussion focusing on a better understanding between Muslims and Christians took place in Fort Wayne sunday evening.
Lifetree Cafe, a national organization, held the event sponsored by Aldersgate Methodist Church in Fort Wayne. The conversation took place at Mocha Cafe Restaurant, 6312 Covington, Fort Wayne. More than two dozen people are expected to participate.
Lifetree Cafe representatives say there are a number of misconceptions about Muslims in the United States. A Pew Global Attitudes survey found that 43% of Americans associate Muslims with fanaticism.
Event supporters say they hope the conversation will bridge gaps between the two religions and build positive relationships with Muslims and Christians in the area.
"If we are not talking to [people of different religions] in a safe way, the misunderstandings continue," said Don Wismer, Aldersgate Methodist Church associate pastor.
Muslim community members shared the same sentiment.
"If the education improves, the relationships will improve," said Shahnaz Mirza of the Islamic Center of Fort Wayne. "I think we should have more dialogue ... with people from all faiths."
Each week, the group focuses on many different religions and cultures throughout the world.
