Ahlul Bayt News Agency - ABNA - Azan or call to prayer and the several ways it is recited in Istanbul have been made the subject matter of a book recently published as part of the promotion events under the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture project.
The book, "Azans of Istanbul," gives a broad account of history, the music, literature and the folkloric aspects of the Islamic way to call believers to prayer.
The book is co-authored by Prof. Mustafa Ismet Uzun, Associate Prof. Mustafa S. Kucukasci, Associate Prof. Nuri Ozcan, Dr. Mehmet Ali Sari and Dr. Mustafa Koc.
The book comes with a compact disc that features a recital of 15 different azan recordings.
