According to head of the Haj Organization, 1.7 million Iranians have registered for haj and it is predicted that it will take about 17 years for all of them to make the spiritual pilgrimage.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir), Speaking at a ceremony held on June 29 to introduce the new director general of Haj Office in southern part of Khorasan Province, Ali Layali head of the organization said, “About 2.5 million Iranians are sent by the organization to holy sites in Saudi Arabia, Syria and Iraq every year.”

“Sending pilgrims of this year started 50 days ago and will continue until August 9.”

Layali added that 3 thousand convoys consisting of some 400 thousand pilgrims will be sent to Haj by the end of this period.

He further noted that following negotiations by Saudi officials regarding their improper treatment towards Iranian pilgrims and problems caused for the pilgrims, it is hoped that such behaviors will not be repeated this year.
