The contest was organized by the Erbakan Thought Foundation, a Turkish institute which is based in Germany.
Aimed at encouraging European Muslim youth to take part in Quranic activities, the competition was held in two age categories: one for 10-to-13-year olds and the other for teenagers between 14 and 18 years of age.
Yunis Imra Damirchi from Hamburg, Germany, won the top title in the first category and Ali Reza Yaman from the Netherlands came first in the second category.
Established by former Turkish prime minister Necmettin Erbakan, the Erbakan Thought Foundation’s main goal is to familiarize non-Muslims with Islamic teachings.
