Essex Mosque assaulted again

The Chair of an Essex mosque has said his mosque has been a target of a series of Islamophobic attacks. Kamal Siddique, who chairs the small mosque from a detached bungalow in Lessington Road, Romford, said the property had six windows smashed on February 12. The frames and floodlights have also been damaged. Speaking to The Muslim News Siddqiui said the latest attack was a part of a sustained far-right campaign to get the mosque closed. “We are very peaceful and don’t bother anyone. There are far-right racists who want his mosque to close down…I am an old man now, I’ve just had enough of this.” He added, “This will cost thousands to fix [windows]; it’s happened before there was an arson attack last year.” Siddique criticised the police for the continuous attacks on the mosque. “We’ve had burglaries and an arson attack the police have done nothing; they came and went but they haven’t actually done anything,” he alleged. A spokesman for Romford Police said, “Mr Siddique has been in contact with the police regularly with regards to ongoing disruption at this address. “The Safer Neighbourhoods area inspector, the Safer Neighbourhoods team and the Community Safety Unit here at Havering Police are all working with Mr Siddque to put in place strategies to improve the situation.”/106
