Only 15% of Americans believe Trump has achieved his war goals: Poll

The US media Politico, citing the results of a poll, reported that seven weeks after the joint US-Israeli military aggression against Iran, only as few as 15% of Americans say Trump has met his goals in the conflict.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The US media Politico, citing the results of a poll, reported that seven weeks after the joint US-Israeli military aggression against Iran, only as few as 15% of Americans say Trump has met his goals in the conflict.

While 15% of the participants in this poll are confident that Trump has achieved his goals, 20% believe he will never achieve them, and another 25% of them think the US president has not yet reached his objectives.

The report also indicated that the data shows Trump has failed to convince the American people of the necessity of war with Iran.

Despite the White House having had enough time to justify its actions, only 38% of Americans still support the attacks on Iran — a figure unchanged since the early days of the war.

A majority of participants (53%) believe that the war with Iran is not in the best interest of the American people, and a significant number of them including some of Trump’s supporters in the 2024 election remain unconvinced that the president has clear goals in this war. And 49% of them said that Trump spends too much time on international affairs rather than domestic issues.

The media stressed that Trump now faces the reality that the Iran war and its consequences could undermine the Republican Party’s chances of victory in the US midterm elections.

US Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff had previously criticized the president’s warmongering policies against Iran, stating, “Donald Trump dragged our country into a war that no one voted for.”

He noted that the $200bn the White House requested to pay for the war on Iran would be enough to “fund a decade, ten full year years of nationwide, universal pre-kindergarten”.

“Instead? A war no one voted for and no one can explain,” Ossoff said.

Ossoff noted that Trump’s war on Iran has already caused the deaths of 13 US soldiers, and thousands of civilians, triggered “sky-rocketing inflation” and done “massive damage to our reputation” and yet “the regime is intact” as is “its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, which it only assembled after Donald Trump shredded President Obama’s Iran deal”.

Tensions escalated after a joint US‑Israeli aggression against Iran on February 28, 2026, amidst indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

Iran then launched retaliatory strikes against US and Israeli assets in the region and announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to vessels linked to the parties involved in the conflict.
