Consequences of the War Against Iran: Alarm Bells of Rising Food Prices in Europe

Warnings have been issued in Germany about rising food prices due to increased energy costs following the war against Iran.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Joachim Rukwied, the president of the German Farmers' Association, called on the German government to act swiftly to counter the recent increase in costs resulting from the war against Iran. He warned that this trend will have direct consequences for agricultural production and food prices in Germany.

Rukwied stated, "The sharp increase in the price of diesel and fertilizer has put farmers under pressure. If immediate decisions are not made, agricultural output may decrease, and we could see a significant rise in food prices starting from early next summer."

He explained that global nitrogen fertilizer prices have increased by 30 to 40 percent since the beginning of the year, and the price of these fertilizers for German farmers has also risen by about 30 percent compared to last year.

He emphasized that reducing fertilizer use is not an option, as this would directly lead to lower production and a decline in product quality, thereby threatening food security.
