ABNA24 - At least 61 people were killed, 116 others injured, and four others went missing in recent rain-triggered accidents across Afghanistan, Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Afghan government, announced on Saturday.

Most of the fatalities occurred in the country's southern and western provinces, Mujahid said in a post on X, Xinhua reported.

The heavy rainfall and related natural disasters have also caused extensive damage, completely or partially destroying 2,448 homes and washing away 26,841 acres of agricultural land across 25 of Afghanistan's 34 provinces, he added.

Afghanistan's meteorological department has forecast more heavy rainfall in the coming days, warning of a heightened risk of flooding, particularly in remote and vulnerable areas.
