AhlulBayt News Agency: The National Library of Albania has unveiled a rare handwritten Quran manuscript dating back to 1912, presenting it as a cultural treasure at the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
The library in Tirana showcased the manuscript from its special collection, highlighting its exceptional calligraphy and precise script, which reflect the meticulous care of scholars and scribes of that era.
The manuscript demonstrates the deep historical connection of Albanian Muslims to the Holy Quran and its central role in their religious and cultural life across generations.
One notable feature is the scribe’s signature at the end, stating: “Written by Hajj Muhammad Nuri, son of Mustafa Effendi, from the Qoshek neighborhood of Korça.”
Korça, located in southeastern Albania, is recognized as one of the country’s important cultural and historical centers.
The manuscript bears the date 1328 AH, corresponding to around 1912 CE, during the final years of Ottoman rule in Albania—a sensitive period just before the nation’s declaration of independence.
Unveiling the manuscript during Ramadan, known as the “month of the Quran,” carries symbolic meaning, emphasizing the enduring Quranic heritage within Albanian Muslim society.
By digitizing the manuscript and making it available through its electronic library, the National Library of Albania aims to preserve Islamic heritage and ensure access for researchers and future generations.
