Gaza Aqsa Hospital at risk of complete shutdown

The Aqsa Hospital in Gaza Strip has warned of an imminent threat to its continued operation following the failure of its second main power generator, after the first main generator had already stopped working three months ago. The hospital also reported a lack of oil and spare parts necessary to repair and safely operate the generators on a sustainable basis.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Aqsa Hospital in Gaza Strip has warned of an imminent threat to its continued operation following the failure of its second main power generator, after the first main generator had already stopped working three months ago. The hospital also reported a lack of oil and spare parts necessary to repair and safely operate the generators on a sustainable basis.

In a statement on Friday, the hospital said that, following the shutdown of both main generators, it is now operating under emergency conditions using only two small generators. These fragile operating conditions do not ensure the stability or continuity of medical services, placing the lives of hundreds of patients, injured individuals, and medical staff at serious risk, particularly in intensive care units, neonatal incubators, operating rooms, and other critical departments.

The hospital warned that the current situation could lead to a complete shutdown of services at any moment, which would constitute a new humanitarian and health disaster, adding to the already severe challenges facing the healthcare system.

It called for urgent and immediate intervention to repair the main generators and provide the necessary oil and spare parts to restore operations without delay.

The hospital also cautioned against the serious consequences of any potential disruption to its medical services, stressing the direct impact such a scenario would have on patients’ lives and safety.

It emphasized that protecting healthcare facilities and ensuring their continued function is both a legal and moral responsibility that cannot be postponed, warning that any delay in maintenance or in supplying essential materials would have catastrophic consequences.
