AhlulBayt News Agency: Senior Hamas official Khaled Mashal has firmly rejected calls for the disarmament of Gaza, describing such demands as an attempt to pave the way for the annihilation and genocide of the Palestinian people.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Mashal said that efforts to strip Hamas of its weapons are meant to leave Palestinians defenseless against Israeli attacks. He accused the Israeli regime of seeking to confiscate Palestinian arms in order to arm militias, create chaos, and commit acts of terror.
Mashal urged the United States, European countries, and international actors to engage with Palestine based on principled approaches rather than adopting the Israeli regime’s viewpoint.
He emphasized Hamas’s commitment to rebuilding Gaza, ensuring that all aid reaches the region, and establishing long‑term stability, stressing that the movement rejects foreign interference.
Mashal said Israeli aggression continues, while Palestinians respond by defending their rights, identity, and aspirations. He added that the remaining weapons in Gaza are purely defensive and that resisting forced displacement is one of Hamas’s major achievements.
Following Operation Al‑Aqsa Flood on October 7, 2023, the Israeli regime launched massive airstrikes aimed at destroying Hamas and occupying Gaza, but has so far failed to achieve its goals. The conflict has killed more than 71,000 Palestinians, destroyed 70% of homes and infrastructure, and caused severe humanitarian crises, including famine and mass displacement.
