AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The 73rd Ali Day was celebrated with devotion and reverence at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) by the Ali Society on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Hazrat Imam Ali (AS).
The event featured academic lectures, spiritual presentations, and cultural activities. Speakers highlighted that Imam Ali’s teachings of justice, knowledge, and social harmony are extremely relevant in the contemporary world.
Organized by the Ali Society of Aligarh / Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), the grand celebration of the 73rd Ali Day took place at Kennedy Auditorium in an atmosphere filled with devotion and respect. The special event was attended by a large number of scholars, teachers, distinguished guests, poets, students, and personalities from various fields.
The program began with a soulful recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Syed Faizan, followed by a Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool presented by Mohammad Zauqeen in praise of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere. Thereafter, students of the Ali Society warmly welcomed the guests and presented them with souvenirs, bouquets, and badges of honor.
In his welcome address, Professor Asghar Ejaz, Patron of the Ali Society at AMU and Chairman of the Department of Shia Theology, shed light on the multifaceted personality of Hazrat Imam Ali (AS). He stated that Imam Ali was born in the Kaaba and attained martyrdom in a mosque, and that his entire life was a practical embodiment of devotion to God, service to humanity, knowledge, courage, and justice.
Later, Student Administrator Shahab Kausar presented the annual report of the Ali Society, providing a detailed overview of its educational, social, and cultural activities. On the occasion, a documentary film produced by the Public Relations Team under the direction of Wali Hasan was also screened, highlighting the historical tradition, intellectual legacy, and contemporary activities associated with Youm-e-Ali (AS).
Delivering the keynote address, Hujjat-ul-Islam Dr. Abdul Majid Hakim Ilahi, the representative in India of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, said that Ali Day is not merely a historical commemoration but a symbol of commitment to the living moral legacy of Imam Ali (AS). He emphasized that reason, justice, responsibility, and human dignity form the foundation of true faith and a just society. According to him, authority without justice holds no value, as justice is the soul of the social order.
He further stressed that Imam Ali’s teachings—rooted in interfaith harmony and cultural coexistence—are especially relevant for a diverse society like India, and he emphasized promoting unity, social cohesion, and peaceful coexistence.
Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, stated in his address that true devotion to Imam Ali (AS) does not lie in emotional slogans alone, but in a genuine struggle against oppression, moral courage, and the establishment of social justice. He urged the audience to move beyond exaggeration and truly understand the core message of Imam Ali (AS).

In her presidential address, Sheikh-ul-Jamia (Vice Chancellor) Professor Naima Khatoon described Hazrat Imam Ali (AS) as an unparalleled embodiment of knowledge, wisdom, courage, and lofty moral values. She said that Imam Ali (AS) was the trustee of the Prophet’s legacy of knowledge and a flourishing garden of wisdom and insight. She advised students to become responsible individuals of strong character and to acquire practical knowledge, stating that these qualities are the true foundation of success and recognition.
