Aliyev Assures Iran: Azerbaijan Will Not Allow Threats from Its Territory

President Ilham Aliyev told Iran’s defense minister that Azerbaijan will not allow its territory to be used against Iran, stressing strong bilateral ties. The meeting came amid US threats toward Iran and ongoing regional tensions.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev stated that his country will not allow its territory to be used for any threat against Iran, amid recent US threats of military action against the Islamic Republic.

Aliyev made the remarks on Friday during a meeting in Baku with Iran’s Defense Minister, Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, where the two sides discussed regional security developments.

He emphasized that within the framework of friendly and brotherly relations, Azerbaijan would not permit any activity from its soil that could endanger Iran.

Aliyev also highlighted the importance of ties between the two neighboring nations, noting their shared historical, cultural, and religious bonds.

He added that Azerbaijan has always viewed Iran’s stability and security as essential for the wider region.

These comments came as the US issued threats against Iran following Tehran’s response to foreign-backed riots last month.

What began as peaceful protests gradually turned violent, with rioters attacking cities, killing security forces, and damaging public infrastructure.

The US and Israel’s Mossad admitted involvement, with former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo posting: “Happy New Year to every Iranian in the streets. Also, to every Mossad agent walking beside them.”

Tensions between Iran and the US have eased in recent days as both sides agreed to resume talks on Tehran’s nuclear program.

For his part, Nasirzadeh stressed the importance of regional countries in maintaining stability and peace, warning that foreign interference threatens regional security.

The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen Tehran–Baku relations.

Relations between the two countries have notably improved under Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who visited Azerbaijan twice last year.
