AhlulBayt News Agency: Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the Malaysian Parliament, welcomed the Iranian delegation and emphasized the importance of the joint presence of Shia and Sunni scholars in Malaysia.
He stated that such engagement can present a clear image of peaceful coexistence between Shia and Sunni communities in the Islamic Republic of Iran to the people of Malaysia and the wider world.
He also provided an overview of Malaysia’s governance structure and political system.
During the meeting, Dr. Shahriari introduced the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, outlining its history, mission, and objectives. He expressed appreciation for the active participation of Malaysian institutions and organizations in the Conference on Islamic Unity and Palestine.
A number of Iranian Sunni scholars also highlighted the favorable situation of Sunni communities in the Islamic Republic of Iran, noting that Sunnis in the country have approximately 18,000 mosques and 600 religious schools, reflecting significant growth in religious activities since the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
They stressed that Sunni Friday prayer leaders and preachers in Iran enjoy full freedom in expressing their views and opinions, without any restrictions.
The meeting also underscored the special attention of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution to the affairs of the Sunni community, and Malaysian officials were urged not to be influenced by negative propaganda and media campaigns orchestrated by adversaries of the Islamic Republic.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a commemorative plaque from the World Forum for Proximity was presented to the Speaker of the Malaysian Parliament.
