AhlulBayt News Agency: Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, says Iran will deliver a harsh response to any adventurism by its adversaries.
Speaking at a national ceremony honoring martyrs from West Azerbaijan Province, held in the provincial capital Orumiyeh on Saturday, the military official said enemies’ plots to defeat Iran were foiled during both the Israeli-waged 12-day war in June and the recent unrest across the country.
“We are ready to deliver a harsh response to any adventurous action by the sworn enemies of the Iranian nation,” Vahidi said.
He noted that the enemies suffered a heavy defeat during the 12-day war and attempted to compensate for it by creating sedition during the recent unrest. Once again, they suffered a heavy defeat thanks to the unity and solidarity of the Iranian people, he added.
The military official also said the United States and its allies are seeking to disintegrate Iran in order to bring it under their control.
Iran was gripped by deadly unrest on January 8 after foreign-backed groups carried out acts of terrorism across the country, ranging from the killing of civilians and security forces to the destruction of public and private property. The acts of terrorism erupted during peaceful protests that began on December 28 over the rising cost of living and occurred as the Iranian government was holding meetings with representatives of the protesters.
Iran responded to the terrorist incidents on its soil to protect national security. The United States, however, threatened the country with military action.
