Bayt News Agency: The NATO-backed takeover of Syria by militants from Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham shocked the world and reshaped the geopolitical landscape of West Asia.
At the time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed responsibility for the sudden assault, stating that his army had played a role in the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad.
"This collapse is a direct result of our forceful action against Hezbollah and Iran, Assad's main supporters," Netanyahu said. "It set off a chain reaction of all those who want to free themselves from this tyranny and its oppression."
The leader of these militant forces, Abu Mohamad al-Jolani, formerly a senior commander in both al-Qaeda and Daesh, has now become the de facto president of Syria under his legal name.
A surprising revelation by former US ambassador to Syria, Robert Ford, has exposed the role of 'Inter Mediate,' a British NGO, in rebranding Jolani to make him more acceptable to the international community.
"Starting in 2023, a British non-government organization specializing in conflict resolution invited me to help them bring this guy out of the terrorist world and into regular politics," Ford admitted.
The disclosure that Ford met with and helped rehabilitate a former al-Qaeda commander on behalf of a British charity has shocked analysts, journalists, and politicians.
"I think it's an incredibly serious revelation, and I think it poses a number of very uncomfortable questions about this whole so-called ‘War on Terror,’" said former British MP Chris Williamson.
"Many people were cynical about that from the outset, but I think this revelation suggests that, you know, it was a sham all along," he added.
Several media outlets and journalists identified the organization in question as Inter Mediate, a conflict resolution group founded by Jonathan Powell, former chief of staff to Tony Blair. This has raised concerns about the role of NGOs in advancing British state objectives.
"There’s been a process of bringing in NGOs to create that distance," Williamson noted. "But I think many people are seeing through that now. They see that these are just cut-outs. This is really the state by another name, acting on the state's behalf."
Press TV reached out to Inter Mediate for comment, asking whether they were indeed the organization referenced by Robert Ford.
As with other media outlets that named them, Inter Mediate responded with silence—a silence that speaks louder than any statement ever could.
