AhlulBayt News Agency: The United Nations has issued an urgent warning that up to 14,000 infants in Gaza could face death within the next 48 hours unless immediate humanitarian aid reaches them.
U.N. humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher emphasized the severity of the crisis, noting that while thousands of aid trucks carrying baby formula and essential nutrition supplies are ready for delivery, they remain stranded at the border due to Israeli restrictions.
“We risk looting, we risk being hit amid the Israeli military offensive. We face all kinds of dangers just trying to deliver baby food to mothers who are unable to feed their malnourished children,” Fletcher told the BBC.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza has deteriorated significantly since mid-March, when Israel resumed its offensive despite a ceasefire agreement and imposed a total blockade on food, medicine, and fuel entering the territory.
According to U.N. agencies, one in five Palestinians in Gaza is now experiencing starvation, and nearly 71,000 children under five are at risk of acute malnutrition.
On Monday night, Israel allowed a small convoy of five aid trucks to pass through the Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) crossing in southern Gaza—the first such delivery of baby food and critical supplies in nearly three months.
However, Fletcher warned that this limited aid represents merely "a drop in the ocean" and has yet to reach the communities most severely affected by the crisis.
