AhlulBayt News Agency - The Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jund Al-Aqsa” – backed by Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Jaysh Al-Turkmen – launched a large-scale offensive on Monday morning to capture the remaining villages under the control of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) along the northern part of the Al-Ghaab Plains.
Jund Al-Aqsa and their allies were able to seize the village of Khirbat Al-Naqous and the small hilltop of Tal Qalayan after a fierce battle with the Syrian Arab Army’s 45th Regiment of the 1st Armored Division and the National Defense Forces.
Following the capture of the aforementioned sites, the Jihadist forces stormed the imperative village of Hakoura near the Syrian Arab Army stronghold of Joureen, resulting in an intense series of clashes that ultimately ended in Jund Al-Aqsa’s retreat on Monday evening.
The Syrian Armed Forces did not report many casualties on Monday, despite Jihadist claims of several military personnel killed.
The Syrian Armed Forces voluntarily retreated from Khirbat Al-Naqous and Tal Qalayan; however, the reason behind this withdrawal was not provided.
