Fighting terrorism must respect nations’ sovereignty

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman has stressed the need for all-out cooperation among countries in the fight against terrorism while respecting the nations’ sovereignty.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman has stressed the need for all-out cooperation among countries in the fight against terrorism while respecting the nations’ sovereignty.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham made the remarks Saturday evening referring to the airstrikes conducted by the Turkish military against targets controlled by the ISIL terrorists inside Syria as well as locations of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq.

While reaffirming the Islamic Republic’s denouncement of all forms of terrorism and extremism, the Iranian official added that any acts of tolerance toward terrorism and Takfiri extremism would further increase the terrorists’ inhumane crimes.

“Any type of confrontation with terrorism must abide by the jus cogens of international law, especially the national sovereignty of governments, and undoubtedly any acts that would undercut the national sovereignty of countries can actually encourage terrorist groups in committing their heinous crimes,” Afkham said.

Afkham further stated that uprooting terrorism is only possible through cutting off financial, arms and intellectual resources.
