Iran denies supplying missile launchers to Russia amid Ukraine war

Iran has faced repeated accusations of supplying military aid to Russia, particularly since the Ukraine war escalated in 2022. Tehran has consistently denied these claims, asserting its neutrality. Meanwhile, Western nations continue to provide advanced weaponry to Ukraine, prolonging the conflict

AhlulBayt News Agency – Iran’s permanent mission to the United Nations has firmly denied allegations that the country is preparing to supply launchers for short-range ballistic missiles to Russia.

Reuters recently reported that Iran was preparing to deliver Fath-360 missile launchers to Russia, potentially enhancing Moscow’s firepower in the ongoing war in Ukraine. The missiles, with a range of 75 miles (120 km), could be used to strike Ukrainian frontline positions, military facilities, and population centers near Russia’s border.

Iran’s mission dismissed the claim as “utterly absurd,” criticizing Reuters for spreading baseless accusations. In a statement, the mission reiterated that Iran remains committed to neutrality in the conflict, stating, “So long as conflict persists between the parties, Iran will abstain from rendering any form of military assistance to either side.”

The United States had previously accused Iran of sending Fath-360 missiles to Russia last September aboard nine Russian-flagged ships. However, reports at the time indicated that the missile launchers were not included in the shipment.

Western security officials and a regional source, speaking anonymously to Reuters, alleged that the delivery of the launchers was imminent but did not provide further details regarding the delay.

Iran’s mission to the UN has consistently rejected similar accusations, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic opposes any military assistance that would escalate the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. Iran has also criticized the United States and its European allies for prolonging the war by supplying advanced weaponry to Ukraine.
