Arizona: Mass shooting at Glendale restaurant leaves 3 dead, 5 injured

A mass shooting at El Camaron Gigante Mariscos & Steakhouse in Glendale, Arizona, left three people dead and five others injured during a Cinco de Mayo celebration. Authorities believe multiple shooters were involved, and investigations are ongoing. Gun violence remains a major issue in the U.S., with 47,000 firearm-related deaths recorded in 2023.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A mass shooting at a restaurant in Glendale, a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona, resulted in multiple casualties on Sunday evening.

The Glendale Police Department reported that the shooting occurred around 7:45 p.m. local time at the crowded El Camaron Gigante Mariscos & Steakhouse, leaving three people dead and five others injured.

Officer Moroni Mendez addressed reporters at the scene, stating, “Obviously, there were a lot of people here. Many were attending an event. Anyone with information, please come forward and provide it to us because, as we just stated, there are three deceased. We want to ensure a complete and thorough investigation and do right by the victims.”

Mendez confirmed that authorities believe more than one shooter was involved in the incident but assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.

“There are quite a few people detained, and we’re trying to determine whether they are suspects, victims, witnesses, or investigative leads,” Mendez explained. “Multiple individuals are being questioned by officers and detectives.”

The police have not yet identified the victims or disclosed their ages.

Mendez stated that the injuries sustained by those wounded were caused by either gunfire or shrapnel. Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances leading up to the mass shooting.

Witnesses told local news stations that the shooting took place during an annual Cinco de Mayo event.

One witness informed 12 News that dozens of people, including families with children, were at the steakhouse celebrating Mexico’s victory over France in the Battle of Puebla when the shooting erupted.

The witness described hearing several rounds of gunfire, followed by a pause before another set of shots was fired.

Gun violence remains a prevalent issue in the United States, with nearly 47,000 gun-related deaths recorded in 2023 alone.

For years, mass shootings in shopping centers, schools, churches, and other public spaces have instilled fear and trauma among many Americans, particularly women, children, and the elderly population.
