AhlulBayt News Agency: Thousands of Palestinian supporters gathered in central London on Saturday to protest Britain’s continued military and political support for Israel.
The protest, which started in Piccadilly Circus and continued towards the U.K. prime minister’s office (opposite Downing Street), is the second largest demonstration in London since the ceasefire in Gaza was announced.
Demonstrators, holding Palestinian flags and placards with slogans such as “Free Palestine” and “Stop supporting Israel,” demanded an end to London’s arms and diplomatic support for Tel Aviv.
“We are here today to send a clear message to the British government: Stop your complicity with Israel,” Bin Jamal, head of the Solidarity Campaign with the Palestinian People and one of the organizers of the protest rally, told IRNA.
“The British government has turned a blind eye to Israel’s blatant crimes – from cutting off water and electricity to Gaza to relentless attacks on civilians. While the United Nations has published reports about the Israeli military’s use of sexual violence against Palestinians, our government has not uttered a single word to condemn these crimes,” he said.
In holding the rally, the protesters defied strict restrictions imposed by the government on anti-Israeli gatherings.
In previous demonstrations, a number of participants, including members of human rights organizations, were arrested by police.
Despite these restrictions, protesters said they would continue their protests until Palestine is liberated.
