AhlulBayt News Agency: The Yemeni Health Ministry declared that the lack of special drugs due to the blockade on the country put the lives of 40,000 patients suffering blood disorders at risk.
Backed by the US and some of the Arab regional states, including UAE, Saudi Arabia invaded Yemen and sieged the country through air, land, and sea.
In a statement on Thursday, the Yemeni health minister announced that Sickle Cell anemia and thalassemia were threatening, respectively, 4,000 and 500 patients in Yemen due to the lack of the relevant medicines.
The ministry called on the international organizations active in Yemen to fulfill their responsibility in supporting Yemen's healthcare sector by exerting pressure on the invading countries to stop the blockade on the Yemeni nation and let the Al-Hodeida Port and Sanaa Airport resume their work.
It also asked international organizations to increase their efforts to transfer and supply blood needed by the patients.
The Head of Yemen's Thalassemia Assembly said that up to the last month, 436 Yemeni patients lost their lives and that 700 new cases were identified.
Ahmad Shamsan noted that it took 6 months to 1 year to receive the drugs ordered for the patients.
