The Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine announced the restoration of a precious Quran dating back to the thirteenth century Hijri.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine announced the restoration of a precious Quran dating back to the thirteenth century Hijri.

The restoration process was supervised by the al-Fadl Center for the preservation of the manuscript heritage and the documentary archive.

The director of the center, Mr. Laith Lutfi, said that "the Qur'an consists of six parts, and the restoration processes have begun with a biological and chemical examination, and the components of the manuscripts containing many colors, inks and ornaments have been thoroughly examined and the type of leather and paper used in them has been revealed".

He added that "the most complicated stage is the restoration of the outer casings, as they contain sunken inscriptions of gold chips, where these chips were lifted, cleaned, restored and returned to their designated places, which required careful artistic and technical work".

On the details of the restoration process, Lutfi explained that "modern technical devices and some natural chemicals for the manufacture and restoration of leather had a big role in restoring the manuscript to its previous status," noting that "the work from its initial stages to completion was about three months, including writing reports and photography."
