AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Foreign Minister of Syria Faisal Mekdad expressed gratitude to the Iranian government and nation for their pivotal role in supporting his country in various fields, particularly in the fight against terrorism.
In a meeting with an Iranian delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Reza Najafi, held in Damascus on Thursday, Mekdad said the Syrian leadership, government, and people appreciate the pivotal role that the Islamic Republic of Iran has played in supporting Syria in the political, military, and economic fields and in the war against terrorism.
Highlighting the deep-rooted and strategic relations between Iran and Syria, he said Damascus is very pleased that its ties with Tehran are at a high level in various fields.
Mekdad also reiterated Syria's support for Iran in the Vienna negotiations on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal.
For his part, Najafi hailed the close relations between Iran and Syria, stressing that the Islamic Republic will continue to support Syria's stances in various international organizations, in the fight against terrorism, and in the efforts to restore security and stability across the region.
Elsewhere in the meeting, the two diplomats discussed the relations between the Foreign Ministries of the two states, as well as the increasing coordination and consultations in various areas of interest, as in the fight against economic terrorism.
