Bomb explosion kills 11, injures 30 inside mosque in northern Afghanistan

Eleven people have been killed in a bomb explosion inside a mosque in Afghanistan’s northern province of Badakhshan.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Eleven people have been killed in a bomb explosion inside a mosque in Afghanistan’s northern province of Badakhshan.

The interior ministry run by the Taliban said in a statement 30 people were also injured in the bombing at Nabawi Mosque n the Hesa-e-Awal area of Fayzabad district on Thursday.

There are concerns the number of casualties could rise.

The former police commander of the northern province of Baghlan, Safiullah Samim, was among the dead.

"The Ministry of Interior of the IEA condemns this brutality of the disgraced enemies," said the statement.

The blast came as "a great number of compatriots" had gathered for a funeral service for Taliban's deputy governor of Badakhshan, Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi, who was killed in an attack earlier this week, the ministry said. The Daesh Takfiri terrorist group claimed responsibility for the bombing in Badakhshan, which also killed the deputy governor’s driver and wounded 10 other people.

The Taliban government has been carrying out raids against members of the terrorist group, which has targeted Taliban administration officials.

They also claimed the killing of the governor of Balkh province in an attack in March.
