Mina disaster martyrs commemorated in Tehran

A ceremony was held in here in the Iranian capital on Saturday to remember those martyred in the 2015 Mina disaster.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A ceremony was held in here in the Iranian capital on Saturday to remember those martyred in the 2015 Mina disaster.

The holy shrine of Hazrat Abdol Azim Hassani (AS) in Rey, south of the capital, hosted the event, dubbed “While Tulips”.

Family members of Iranian Hajj pilgrims who were martyred in the Mina disaster attended the ceremony.

Also present was Hojat-ol-Islam Abdo Fattah Navvab, the representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Hajj and pilgrimage affairs.

In an address, he highlighted the status of the martyrs of Mina and said martyrs are among those God has bestowed favors.

He added that the blessing of martyrdom is what Imam Ali (AS) and other great figures prayed for.

On September 24, 2015, thousands of people lost their lives in a deadly crush after Saudi authorities blocked a road in Mina, ear Mecca, during a ritual, forcing large crowds of pilgrims to collide.

The crush was the deadliest incident in the history of the pilgrimage. According to an Associated Press count based on official statements from the 36 countries that lost citizens in the disaster, more than 2,400 pilgrims were killed in the incident.

Saudi Arabia claims nearly 770 people were killed, but officials at Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization say about 4,700 people, including over 460 Iranian pilgrims, lost their lives.

Among those martyred were members of the Iranian Noor Quranic Convoy Mohsen Hajihassani Kargar, Hassan Danesh, Mohammad Saeed Saeedizadeh, Foad Mash’ali ad Amin Bavi.
