AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The second pre-meeting for the International Conference of Religious Education at Universities and Seminary Schools has been held at the Razavi University of Islamic Sciences with the presence of Muslim and Catholic scholars. The meeting was a chance to exchange views on commonalities between Islam and Christianity.
Saeed Jazari, a professor at the Catholic University of Paris, appreciated Astan Quds Razavi’s “warm and passionate desire” for hosting interfaith meetings.
“The study on Shia school of thought and its history first evolved in 1940 in the French city of Strasbourg,” Jazari stated.
“In 1940, a course on Shia studies was run for the first time at Oxford University and then at the University of Chicago,” added the professor.
According to the Catholic scholar, up until 1960, Shia was known in the West as a small sect of Islam.
Thanks to the efforts of French researcher, Henry Corbin, Shia began to gain recognition in the West, especially in France. “Today, the West recognizes Shia as an influential school of thought in Islam and the world, and this approach is manifested by holding teaching courses [on Shia],” said Jazari.
Corbin defined Shia as an “intrinsic movement that shapes the truth of Islam”. “This approach emerged in Corbin's time and later on grew to become a dominating thought in France and England,” Jazari pointed out.
“Before the Islamic Revolution, dialogs between French Christians and Iranian scholars were limited to a few hours at Mehrabad Airport’s ceremonial hall. But today, there are many meetings going on here,” underlined the French scholar.
“Five months ago, we were warmly welcomed by the Astan Quds Razavi Scientific Department and Razavi University of Islamic Sciences. This time, we have come straight to Mashhad to participate in the second specialized pre-meeting for the Conference of Religious Education at Universities and Seminary Schools in Imam Reza’s holy shrine,” he said.
Expressing sincere appreciation over the hosting of the international event by Astan Quds Razavi, Jazari hoped that the meeting would make great achievements.
